Welcome to the 3rd edition of Pin & Pilates - 'The Gentle Wave', taking place at Resurgence in Hartland on January 31st. This is a time of year when hard winter begins to soften, and the first gentle hints of spring start to appear or in the least start that shift. The days are slowly getting longer, the air is shifting, and our bodies naturally begin to notice the change.
This workshop is designed to help you move with the season. Through a mixture of gentle, energising movement, we’ll awaken muscles, joints, and breath, allowing the body to release the stillness of winter and open to the rising energy of spring. We will also include 2-wave acupuncture to support this process, and a tea ceremony with herbs to nourish joints, tendons, and inner systems. Intentional practices will provide space to reflect and plant small seeds for the season ahead.
The movement is about more than just exercise. It’s an invitation to reconnect with your body, cultivating elasticity, adaptability, efficient force transmission, and heightened awareness. Together, we’ll explore the balance between effort and ease, letting go of winter’s rigidity while welcoming the warmth and possibilities of spring. This is a space to slow down, tune in, and step into the season with curiosity, care, and vitality.
'The Gentle Wave'
In traditional Chinese medicine, winter belongs to the water element — a time of stillness, depth and conservation. As the season shifts, energy doesn’t suddenly burst into spring; it rises gently, like a slow wave. This movement awakens the body’s internal pathways, encourages circulation, and softens areas that have been held or protected during the colder months.
In movement practice, the gentle wave is felt in the tissues and connective layers. Instead of forcing or pushing, the body responds to rhythm and gradual motion. Small waves through the spine, joints, and breath invite elasticity, adaptability and ease. The body begins to “melt” out of winter’s contraction, allowing space for new energy to flow in.
Seasonally, this wave reflects nature’s own timing. Light returns in small increments, sap begins to rise, and seeds begin their quiet preparation beneath the surface. We honour this slow awakening: not rushing into spring, but guiding the body, nervous system, and breath to meet it at a sustainable pace.
