Space to Grow Young Rangers at Wharncliffe Side Primary
Come join Bridget and the team at Wharncliffe Side Primary for a fun-filled season of outdoor adventures! Running 7 weeks from Sept 11 to October 21st.
Our Youth Rangers program is designed to inspire and educate young minds about nature and the environment.
You can choose to pay through Discovery Outdoors to attend the Space to Grow program specifically.
Students attending the school's after school program will also spend their first hour with Bridget and the team.
Getting Ready.
Bridget and John have worked this summer to make the allotment much more accessible and more plans to develop the site are in process. We look forward to involving the children in these decisions and in some of the building program this term.
What to expect.
We will be focusing on replanting and caring for the Dragon Garden and the allotment that have suffered in the drought and been are now growing fast with all the rain.
There will also be artistic work and nature focused games to support creativity and scientific understanding of our natural world.
On site activities will also focus on growing and habitat changes as well as starting to grow plants from seed.
Our sessions will utilise the outdoor space and we adapt according to the weather as well as student progress.
Your leader.
Bridget is a qualified teacher and head gardener at Wortley Hall Walled Garden. Now retired from full time teaching, Bridget is keen to share her knowledge with a new generation of growers.
Along with Wharncliffe staff, from week 3 we will have additional staff on site as we are supporting an apprenticeship program to encourage and train young gardeners.
All of our staff are fully enhanced DBS checked.

Outdoor clothing?
Yes. Yes, Yes, Yes. Heavy rain and very unpleasant weather - We will be indoors.
We will try to spend time outside when we can so send your kids with clothes to ensure that they are warm and dry! We will always have gloves for outdoor use for the children.
