8 x week throwing course: Sundays, 10am-1pm, 6th September - 25th October

This is a purely throwing course for those looking to hone their skills on the wheel in a small group of students, suitable for beginners and intermediates.

Here you will be guided through a series of exercises designed to rid you of bad habits and move you forward with your technique. There will also be time to work on your own projects and answer specific questions. There will be the opportunity to glaze your work for collection, or if in the last weeks you would prefer to continue practising at the wheel you are welcome to do so, at this point we could bisque fire your pieces for collection.

During the first few weeks you will be guided through a series of exercises. You will learn how to throw cylinders evenly and efficiently, throw and turn footed bowls, plates and lidded vessels. You will be introduced to techniques of repetition throwing, pulling handles and lips. Your teacher will also give an introduction to glazing and surface decoration. In the later sessions, you will have time to work on your own projects and ask specific questions relevant to your development.

Taking place on Sunday mornings, 10am-1pm, at our Farringdon studio. The course cost is £370 & there will be a maximum of 8 students in a class creating more contact time. This doesn’t include the cost of fired work, which is £5 per 1kg of fired pot, full T&Cs: https://www.thekilnrooms.com/terms

This course will be led by Kyra, a full-time maker and teacher of seven years and a member of The Kiln Rooms since 2016. Working primarily in thrown functional ware, she is a highly supportive and encouraging presence in the studio.

In the event of illness or annual leave, one of our other experienced teachers would lead the session in her place.

All 8-week course participants have booking access to optional drop-in sessions, offering additional studio time outside class hours - ideal for those who would like extra practice without committing to full membership.

If you miss a class or arrive late, we are unable to reschedule sessions or provide alternative studio time, as courses run at fixed times to cover the cost of tuition.

Refunds:

Cancellations made 20 days or more before the start date receive a full refund (minus a £5 booking fee). Between 20 and 10 days before the start date, 50% of fees will be refunded (minus booking fee). No refunds are available within 9 days of the start date or once the course has begun.
