All Social Work practitioners will now have some awareness of the concept of trauma informed practice; these being the ideas and psychological theories that encourage us to consider how survival responses can get activated when people find themselves in certain contexts.
However, making the shift from understanding theory to actually embedding these ideas into how we work in our settings is extremely hard work. Particularly if we pay attention to the current wider context of underfunding and subsequent outcome driven initiatives. This workshop will open up thinking about how we can really shift the ethos of our services and practice in a way that does not pathologise others, and that enables social care workers to stay connected to their expertise and instinct.
This will be a space where we can share what we know, as well as examine the voices that bring in differences around both trauma theory and its practice and see what answers we can come up with together.
In order to attend you will need access to Zoom, microphone and a camera. If you know you are going to be attending in a shared space you will also need headphones.
This is an interactive workshop, please come prepared to have your camera on and to participate in discussions.
