Surf Coach Rescue Award
This award is applicable to all those undertaking surf coaching and instruction activity to provide a vocational industry standard based on proven rescue task competencies, using recognised research and recommended rescue equipment. It establishes a level of competence for the safety and rescue of participants under instruction during a coached ISA (or equivalent) surf activity session undertaken in surf conditions appropriate for those being instructed. This award is for the specific use of a Qualified Surf Coach for Surf Coaching Activity Only. It is not suitable for safety cover for any other multiple participant activities such as Coasteering, SUP Coaching, paddle sports or open water swimming unless ONLY USED as a Lifeguard who is part of a managed water safety team using written risk assessments as the basis for the safety cover plan. Surf coach fitness- 100m Run-Swim-Run and the 8 minute swim

Surf Coach Safety Award
This award is applicable to those undertaking surf coaching and instruction activity and for surfboard hiring organisations. It aims to establish a minimum vocational standard that demonstrates a level of competence for the safety of participants under instruction during a coached surf activity session undertaken in primarily wading depth water and to establish the necessary skills and knowledge to provide basic rescue response and life support. Holders of this award should take careful account of local conditions where they are coaching and the scope of the activity and the guidance provided by local risk assessments and a location specific LOP. A signed declaration of 200m timed Pool swim in under 5 minutes witnessed by lifeguard/swim teacher /coach in a pool of not less than 25m
Open water swim competency. The candidate will complete to the satisfaction of the Trainer Assessor a demonstration of open water swimming competency, confidence and fitness that is sufficient to be able to support basic lifesaving activity.
Coach Safety and Rescue techniques
Aquatic First Aid, including appropriate response for a suspected spinal injury when operating as single or partnered surf coach
Casualty rescue and care techniques operating in an aquatic environment
Understanding the beach/fluvial location where you will work as a coach and the impact of water flow, tides, rips, weather conditions and other beach and water users.
Pre Requisites:
Minimum of 16 years of age on date of assessment.
Be a full member of SLSGB
Surf Coach Rescue Award:
A timed pool swim of 400m in 8 minutes OR the equivalent open
water swim competency,
Surf Coach Safety Award:
200m timed pool swim in under 5min not less than 25m.
