Re-imagining Masculinity faces the current rise of misogyny by giving tools to the majority of us who don’t believe in biological determinism. Like many things fueled by internet culture, it isn’t new, but rather this wave of sexism is faster to spread and amplified.
This workshop starts at the entrance to the misogyny pipeline and explores how misogyny is normalized, creating an easy on-ramp further in. The tired stereotypes and arguments are then used to further divide people until conversations seem impossible.
This separation and isolation are the tools used to amplify this hate movement. This workshop will explore concepts of balancing empathy, intersectionality and accountability to create relationships with those ingrained in misogynist movements. Using the framework of gender transformation, we will then move the conversation forward to reduce isolation and harm.
This workshop is for anyone wanting to have important conversations about the misogyny we see in our communities. It is best for those who work with young men in various capacities.
This in-person workshop will take place at SERC's Winnipeg office. Coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided. There will be a lunch break. Participants are welcome to use SERC's kitchen (fridge, microwave, dishes) if they bring their own lunch, or they can go out to grab something during the break.
