Join Stitched Up for an evening of community action and fundraising for young people affected by conflict and apartheid in the Middle East.
All funds raised at the event will be donated to MECA: The Middle East Children’s Alliance is a nonprofit organization working for the rights and the well-being of children in the Middle East. MECA supports dozens of community projects for Palestinian children and refugees from Syria. Since 1988 they have delivered $42 million in food and medical aid to Palestine, Iraq, and Lebanon. MECA welcomes the support of all people who care about children and their future.
During 18 months of brutal attacks on Gaza, MECA team and partners are providing emergency assistance to children and families to help them survive.
Make a watermelon patch or lino print;
Watermelon badge/patch making
Dive into our stash of reclaimed materials to create your own watermelon solidarity patch with a twist. Wielding a needle and thread create your own badge/patch to add to clothing or accessories.
Level: Beginner - no sewing experience required.
Skill: Hand sewing, layering of fabric and simple embroidery stitches.
Bring: All materials and equipment provided. If you have extra scrap materials you would like to use, please bring them along.
Lino printing
Not quite ready for sewing (or want to try both)? We will have a small selection of handmade lino templates available to patch onto your clothing or accessories (or anything you can think of) to wear your support with pride.
Note this is a very informal lino printing session. We will have some screen printing paints available but no specific fixatives for textile printing - the longer you leave it to dry the better! We recommend ironing the dry print before washing.
Level: Beginner
Skill: Informal lino printing techniques
Bring: An item of clothing or textiles you plan on printing.
