PLS Chair, Mark Sherry will host presenters Michala Beacham, Director NHI Act Implementation and Bernadette McDougall, Head of Claims from EQC Toka Tū Ake for a one hour overview of the new Natural Hazards Insurance Act.
The Act takes effect on 1 July. It will replace the Earthquake Commission Act and modernise the legislation, as well as introduce some changes that could be of interest to property lawyers who help homeowners navigate issues with insurance.
Some of the changes include:
• a new Code of Insured Persons’ Rights
• a new, independent dispute resolution pathway for natural hazards claims
• new definitions, providing clarity of cover and entitlements for homeowners
• a name change for EQC to Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake.
