RECORDED EVENT - LIVE WEBINAR HELD 18 JUNE 2024
PLS Chair, Mark Sherry hosts presenters Michala Beacham, Director NHI Act Implementation and Peter Highton from EQC Toka Tū Ake for a one hour overview of the new Natural Hazards Insurance Act.
The Act came into force on 1 July. It replaced the Earthquake Commission Act and modernised the legislation, as well as introduced some changes that could be of interest to property lawyers who help homeowners navigate issues with insurance.
Some of the changes include:
• a new Code of Insured Persons’ Rights
• a new, independent dispute resolution pathway for natural hazards claims
• new definitions, providing clarity of cover and entitlements for homeowners
• a name change for EQC to Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake.
