America turns 250 years old on July 4th, 2026!!!! Happy Birthday!!!!!! The 250th anniversary events of the American Revolution are upon us. The war began on April 19th, 1775, at Lexington and Concord where Patriots stood in defense of their rights against an oppressive government. By 1776, the war reached New York as the largest invasion force in North American history landed in Brooklyn to stop the Americans from gaining independence. The year 2026 will see a multitude of events commemorating the beginning of America's struggle for independence. For the seven years after that, communities across the Nation will be highlighting their contributions to this struggle.
In this exciting workshop, Rob Buccheri, a local teacher and reenactor, will be presenting an overview of the American Revolution and how it affected New York State. Participants will learn about not only the events of the Revolution, but also the differing perspectives of the people involved. They will also learn about the 250th anniversary events that have occurred and will be celebrated in many different communities. Participants will be invited to become a part of these celebrations. These REV250 programs are made possible in part with funding provided by the Revolutionary Putnam County 250 FUND.
