Vocational courses prepare you to work in a trade, in a craft, as a technician, or in support roles in a wide range of professions such as engineering, accountancy, nursing, medicine, architecture or law.

If you have a specific career in mind, prefer a practical way of learning, and assignments over exams, choose from our wide range of vocational courses.

Through games, practical tasks and script work, you’ll have a chance to explore different acting techniques and get a sense of what it’s like to study at Mechanics’ Performing Arts.

Animal Care

Photography (Voc)

Have you ever wondered how you might take the ultimate form of selfie? Have you ever wanted to work in photographic studio? This practical session will enable you to get away from the automatic settings on cameras and take a more professional approach. We will address the basic camera controls and how light is captured as well as the underlying principles of composition. During the session, you will devise ideas for your own self-portraits and utilise the studio to realise your ideas which will consist of digital image manipulation within the Photoshop framework. You will learn to identify tools within the interface and use them to manipulate your own self-portraits in abstract and possibly surreal ways.

Public Services (Full Day)

You will meet members of the team who will tutor you while in college and through a series of tasks and challenges you will learn how to develop yourself and get a sense of what it is like to study a Public Service course.

In this session, you will complete a number of sessions throughout the day designed to provide you with an idea of what its like to study sport at Wakefield College. The day will vary between practical based sports activity sessions and an introduction to the theory behind the many aspects of performance.

Travel & Tourism

We will be exploring the exciting and ever-changing world of travel and tourism in these two-hour sessions. You will meet the Travel and Tourism Team, partake in group activities and explore your favourite holiday destination- starting to think more like a member of the tourism industry. You will also create your ideal island and start to develop the skills needed to become a real-life travel advisor.
