Details

People of all ages live much more of their lives online than 20 years ago. Digital dating apps are no longer trends, but norms in many places. Is it any surprise that young people are developing and experiencing their sexuality online as well? This training focuses on how to reduce the risks and increase the benefits of online sexuality through an essential life skill: consensual literacy. Service providers will leave with understandings of the legal aspects of viewing and sending sexual material and ways to have open, non-judgmental conversations about sexuality and technology with youth.

These conversation skills will be for both reactive and proactive messaging. How do you create an environment where youth will speak about their experiences with sexting? How do we respond when sexting turns into abuse? We'll talk about it.
To be proactive we can address three areas: consent, gender & power and bystander intervention. We know that most youth don't sext and these proactive messages will prepare them when they do or when it comes up in their lives.

This workshop also touches on pornography and its influence on young people. Free pornography is much more readily available than sexuality education. This workshop will give you ways to teach media literacy to young people so they have the tools to digest what they are seeing.
