This course raises awareness of the ill-health risks associated with legionella bacteria, where the bacteria comes from, how it can be allowed to proliferate, and how to minimise the risks of transmission.
Legionella bacteria grows easily in man-made water systems which are maintained in the “danger zone”, allowing bacteria to breed in many buildings containing stored hot or cold water, these bacteria can then be allowed to come into contact with people, and individuals may then contract legionaries disease.
Employers need to consider the risks of legionella in their risk assessments and manage the risk to reduce the chances of employees or members of the public contracting the disease from any property the employer manages.
Legionnaires disease has a fatality rate of 5-15% and some people can be more likely to catch it than others.
This course will help delegates:
• Improve understanding of what Legionella is and where it’s commonly found
• Explore the history of the disease
• Learn key facts about how Legionella bacteria can grow
• Understand the regulations relating to Legionella control
• Clarify employers responsibilities
• Manage water systems safely and effectively
• Maintain accurate records to demonstrate strong compliance
Sessions are a mixture of slides and discussions. There is a short knowledge test at the end of the course to ensure delegates have absorbed the key information.
