Details

Self-suspension is an art that combines many different disciplines into one physical expression.

Aerial dance, rope bondage, art installation, yoga – all of these for the core, but there is much more that can be included in shibari bondage and self-suspension art. There are as many different reasons why people begin to tie, and as many styles of self-tying/self-suspension as there is individuals who practice this form of art.

To learn shibari or self-suspension we need to be super-aware of our strengths and weaknesses.

During these classes I will do my best to share as much of my personal experience as possible: from the time when I was a rope-model - throughout 12+ years of my self-suspension journey.

To begin with, we will have an open - but safe - discussion about our bodies. This will include having a chat about our lifestyles (e.g. sport you might be training, desk-job, dance, injuries etc.).

I would also love to understand why you are interested in learning self-suspension. By knowing the reasons for your interest in self-suspension, I will be able to adjust my knowledge to suit the individual needs of each participant.
I will try to encourage you to take part in this discussion, as I believe that this will be very important and beneficial for your future exploration in this field.

Be it that you would like to perform on the stage in the future, do this to explore your own strengths or just try something completely different to what you were doing before - no reason is more or less significant than another - you are all valued and your reasons behind coming to this class will be respected.

In this block of classes I will teach you basics of shibari ties, such as:

-single column tie

-double column tie

-mermaid tie (exercise for learning how to block the rope, balance and tension between lines)

-hip harness

-suspension lines

For those who are learning fast I will add more ties to work on.

You are welcome to film yourself during the class, but please bare in mind that not everyone will be happy to be filmed, so please ask for permission before filming others.
