Class Description
For beginning students and advanced students. Set yourself apart as you develop a whole new way of illustrating. The mentorship environment will focus on gaining the confidence necessary to experiment. Students will be encouraged to explore a wide array of materials and approaches, from surprising uses of ink to intriguing integrations of traditional and digital tools. Students will find new ways of thinking about the construction of narrative images. They may find a distinctive personal vision that surprises them. Beginners will build a solid foundation from which to grow in their own unique way. Experienced students in Sam’s class often pass over creative thresholds and start working in new ways that become a signature style for their career.
Sam has taught for many years at one of the top art schools in America. His class is also informed by his vast experience in many areas of illustration, from being an assistant art director at the New York Times, to doing extensive book covers, comics covers, magazine covers, magazine interiors, institutional illustrations, editorial illustrations, and advertising work.
Though Sam doesn’t work directly for the gaming industry, the students who take his class are just as likely to be hired by gaming companies in the future. Every illustration client is looking for an artist with a distinctive vision.
Towards the end of the semester a high level art director guest will visit the class and see student work.
After taking this class students will also receive the option of a free profile on the Alumni Portfolios page. Visit the Alumni Portfolios page and type a teacher's name into the search bar to see some of the artists who studied with that teacher.
