SONGWRITING, SCENE PAINTING, ACTING, SINGING, STORY WRITING, SET AND COSTUME DESIGN, MASK MAKING, PERFORMING!
Build an Opera is a completely unique Summer holiday course that runs from Monday 4th- Friday 8th August 2024. Our course runs in one of Sussex's biggest and most beautiful barns on the edge of the South Downs National Park in historic hamlet of Sullington. Children will get stuck into a world of creativity with tips on singing technique, costumes and sets to design, songs to write, sounds to discover and a story to make. Aided by professional opera singer Mark Bradbury, an actor musican/ director, a scenic artist and professional composer Christopher Hussey, participants devise, compose, design, paint, and perform a brand new piece of musical theatre in just one week. Each day will run from 9:30am- 4pm, apart from the Friday when participants will remain on site until a 6pm performance for families and friends to enjoy, followed by a family picnic at the farm. Simply select the number of children from your household taking part and sibling discounts will be applied to your entire booking (15% for 2 siblings, 20% for 3 siblings).

Select the number of children from your household taking part and sibling discounts will be applied to your entire booking (15% for 2 siblings, 20% for 3 siblings). When booking, please pay the deposit of £60 per child. Course fees are now also due, so follow the instructions in your confirmation message and pay the course fees on the day your booking is made.
Your child will need to be dressed for the outdoors, but also ready to be getting a little messy with paint and prop making materials. They'll need to bring suncream, a sunhat, long trousers or leggings at the ready for exploring the area, a packed lunch each day (nut free please), snacks, a water bottle, raincoats and suitable outdoor footwear, a jumper or fleece (mornings in the barn can be a little chilly) and old clothing for scene painting and prop making. As the week progresses, we may ask for some help sourcing items from home for props and costumes. We won't know what these are initially as they will be based on the children's creative ideas, but there won't be a need to purchase anything.

TOTAL COURSE FEES: Total course fees are: One child: £310. Two siblings: £263.50 per child (15% discount). Three siblings: £248 per child (20% discount). What's included? Participation in the week long project and at least 6 tickets per family to the informal performance and picnic on Saturday 10th August at 6pm. Participants will be expected to bring their own lunches, snacks and drinks throughout the course, as the audience will bring along their own picnics and due to the flexible nature of the creative process we will likely ask families throughout the week if they might have some items at home that can be used within costume, set and prop designs that they will be willing to share. A balance payment of the remaining course fees will be due by bank transfer in two payments of 50% by 1st June and 1st July 2025.
