Through multiple research journals and by following key rehabilitation and strengthening figures that work in this population I have been able to compile a new and specific “Masters Runner Masterclass”.
By understanding some of the physiological changes occurring with maturation of runners, I have been able to consider the best rehabilitation and performance outcomes that can help reduce injury risk and keep consistency in this group.
The research has suggested that generally, masters runners experience greater muscle and tendon injuries than their younger counterparts. The calf complex, achillies tendon, hamstrings and foot pain being most prevalent. The research has put this down to reduced stiffness in the achillies tendon, hamstring tendons and the tendons of the foot.
This online class will be aimed at strengthening the calf complex, achillies tendon, hamstrings and feet. The activities will be led and described from the physiotherapist and followed along with at home.
The exercises may require a mat, step, weight/bottle of water, theraband and space.
