Overview
During this course we will explore the rich colours, shapes, and subtle textures of autumn, focusing on fallen leaves, woodland mushrooms, and characterful pumpkins. We’ll study these forms through observation, proportion, colour mixing, and layered watercolour techniques, building skills through focused seasonal studies. Each week develops texture, pattern, and expressive brushwork. By the end of the course you will have completed a series of autumn studies, with the opportunity to bring these pieces together in a harmonious collaged final artwork. With a maximum of eight students per class, you’ll enjoy focused guidance and a warm, supportive learning environment designed to nurture both confidence and creativity. *All necessary materials and equipment will be provided by the studio, just bring your creativity! *

Learning Aims
• Explore a range of watercolour techniques inspired by autumn
• Observe colour, pattern, and texture with confidence
• Develop expressive studies using washes and combined techniques
• Refining final works to produce chosen outcome

Weekly Breakdown
Week 1: Watercolour skills, colour mixing and leaf studies
Week 2: Mushrooms, focusing on building colour impact.
Week 3: Pumpkins, working with texture techniques.
Week 4: Acorns and Conkers, layering with watercolour pencils.
Week 5: Silhouettes, tree outlines and colour washes
Week 6: Refinements and creation of chosen final piece

Course Planning & Teaching
Our courses are thoughtfully designed and taught by Kitty, Creative Director and Founder of Springwood Barn. A fully qualified teacher with 17 years of experience, Kitty is fully insured, certified in First Aid, and holds an enhanced DBS check, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all learners.

This structured approach balances technical learning with creative autonomy, empowering students to experiment, develop their own style, and grow in their artistic practice.

Materials
Tea and Coffee will be provided during the session including a home made treat.

Arrival
Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the session starts to settle in and prepare for your workshop.

Parking & Access
On-site parking is available. The Studio is located on Petworth Road, directly opposite Holdfast Lane. Signage will be in place on the day of the event. Please follow the signs to reach the barn. For further details, kindly refer to the location and map information provided.

Springwood Barn is located at Springwood Farm, 85 Petworth Road, Haslemere. The entrance to the farm is through Springwood House, opposite the end of Holdfast Lane, next to a bus stop.

🚗 Arrival & Entry

  • Please use the main house entrance opposite Holdfast Lane.
  • As you enter through the main house gate, turn left towards the farm.

  • Parking is available in clearly marked spaces on the farm site.
  • Kindly park considerately to ensure access for other visitors and farm vehicles.
