This workshop, funded by the HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention, is for professionals and key contact people who, in the course of their work, come into contact with people who have been bereaved through suicide. It explores the unique needs of suicide bereavement, so that participants become more equipped to provide support in the safest and most effective ways possible.
It is a requirement that applicants have completed either LivingWorks Start, SafeTALK, ASIST or equivalent training.
This workshops aims to;
โข Develop participantsโ knowledge and understanding of the grieving process
โข Demonstrate the value of empathy, compassion and humanity and the importance of meeting people where they are at
โข Enhance participantsโ skills in supporting people bereaved through suicide.
What to expect from this workshop
This workshop covers five key topics;
โข Understanding the grieving process
โข The context of suicide
โข How to support people bereaved through suicide
โข Skills building
โข Self-care.
At the end of this workshop, participants will;
โข Understand the grieving process, the context of suicide and the risk factors associated with suicide
โข Have developed their understanding of the key elements of supporting someone bereaved through suicide
โข Be able to apply the learning from this workshop to their own practice and support people bereaved through suicide.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE WORKSHOP:
The programme involves an interactive style, including PowerPoint presentation, DVD clip, case study examples and small group discussions.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
This workshop can be challenging at an emotional level, it is not recommended for anyone who is feeling emotionally vulnerable. If you have experienced a major challenge in the last 6 months, such as a bereavement, particularly a suicide bereavement it is recommended that you do not undertake the training at this time and delay until you are feeling emotionally stronger.

The Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service is a free, confidential service that provides assistance and support to families and individuals after the loss of a loved one to suicide.
