Positive Supports Rule: Restricted and Prohibited Procedures 💻

This is an online event.

Joining instructions will be provided after booking.

Details

The Positive Supports Rule (PSR) applies to all 245D providers and it contains critical information that must be confidently implemented. Two important sections of the PSR include prohibited procedures and restricted procedures. Staff need to have a clear understanding of these requirements as failure to know them well can result in maltreatment. This course dives into two categories of procedures, including the 30 listed prohibited procedures in MN Statutes, Chapter 245D, and MN Rules, Chapter 9544. We will spend additional time focused on several of the prohibited procedures. The course also covers the two types of restricted procedures, Emergency Use of Manual Restraint (EUMR) and Positive Support Transition Plans (PSTP), including essential reporting and documentation requirements.

Topics:

  • Prohibited procedures listed in MN Statutes, Chapter 245D and MN Rules, Chapter 9544 (PSR): several will be discussed in depth
  • Restricted procedures including Emergency Use of Manual Restraint (EUMR) and Positive
  • Support Transition Plans (PSTP)
  • Reporting, reviewing, and documenting these use of an EUMR or PSTP
  • Supporting someone in decreasing target behaviors while increasing positive, adaptive behaviors through the use of a PSTP
  • Behavior Intervention Reporting Form (BIRF) incident reporting requirements

By the end of the session, participants will leave equipped to ensure future compliance and in the ability to effectively support their staff in these key areas.

Audience: Designated Coordinators, Designated Managers, Program Directors, or anyone who is responsible for compliance through out the organization.

CEU Contact Hours: 1.8 for Nurses, 1.5 for Social Workers
