"Tour of Rarely Seen parts of St Davids Cathedral ... as Yr Arglwydd Rhys / The Lord Rhys would have known it when he founded the National Eisteddfod in 1176"
St Davids Cathedral was being built at the time that Arglwydd Rhys founded the first National Eisteddfod in 1176. This was also soon after Norman King Henry II of England had visited St Davids / Menevia shortly after the murder of Thomas Becket. Consider how all these events were linked in the 12th century, while visiting the tomb effigy of Arglwydd Rhys in the Cathedral South Presbytery aisle.
This Tour takes place during the 2026 National Eisteddfod being held nearby in Llantwd, north Pembrokeshire.
At the end of the Tour at about 4pm, there will be the option to visit the Cathedral Library.
This Tour will be conducted in English (except for Welsh names).
During Eisteddfod week, 1st to 9th August, Tours of the Cathedral will also be held in Welsh incuding at 11am each morning. See posters in cathedral for further information.

The Cathedral nave and outside shops, and also the Refectory cafe, will be open between 10am and 4pm on the day of the Tour.
Instructions
Attendees should meet in the nave of the Cathedral for 2.30pm. The Cathedral is built on a slope with short sets of stairs in some places. Any attendees with mobility challenges can let us know at the start of the tour and we can work out suitable assistance.
The Cathedral Library is reached via 25 medieval spiral stone stairs. It is an option for attendees to visit the Library at the end of the tour.
