I am a Self Employment Mixed Media Artist/ Freelance Teacher and mother of 2 children currently working and living in South Devon.
In school and college, I studied textiles and dressmaking and Art and Design. In my 20’s I was fortunate to have the opportunity to help my friend to make the king and queen costumes for the Nottinghill carnival in Oval community centre, South London. In Harrow I helped to make 3 giants and I ran several costume making workshops for children for the Under One Sky multicultural procession. In Harrow on the Hill, I laid the patterns and cut the satin and silk for a wedding dress designer Suzanne Neville.
In my early 30’s I learnt how to make roman blinds, cushions, pillows, skirts, trousers, patchwork quilts and wall hangings.
I have worked in Day Centres, Independent and State Schools and Colleges and has designed projects to follow the Primary National Curriculum Key Stages, and Secondary GCSE, GNVQ, A Level Curriculum.
Through my work in Education, over the years I have gained a deep understanding of current issues and pressures that face young people today.
I am passionate about using Sewing, Crafts, Ceramics and Mosaic as a vehicle for improving well-being, and empowering individuals through creative expression through developing ideas, designs and growth of practical skills.
