Slow it down and step into the winter woods for a morning of traditional craft and creativity against the beautiful backdrop of Baldersby Park. Wander through the trees and shrubs to choose and cut the foliage you want for your wreath, learning some yuletide folklore along the way.
This nature experience offers an alternative approach to wreath-making where the process is the most rewarding part. Grounded in tradition, you will learn the satisfying, heritage craft of weaving a rustic wreath base entirely from bramble runners and decorate it with plants and natural materials that are unique to you. We’re not aiming for polished Instagram-able results – just something that reminds you that December doesn’t have to be all high-streets and high stress!
What to Expect:
• The Deer Shed: Adjacent to the car park, we start at our historic, open-fronted stone building. We’ll come together around the fire pit, to make our bramble wreath bases (the brambles will be ready stripped).
• The Foraging & Folklore Walk: Heading into our private winter woodland. we will gather abundant evergreen foliage, pinecones, holly and ivy, and chat about the captivating history of festive folklore—from the ancient rivalry of the Holly King and Ivy Queen to the protective magic of winter greens.
• Wild & Curated Textures: Back at base, we’ll weave our collected foliage onto our bramble hoops – with support, encouragement and other pre-prepared natural materials to enhance your creation.
• Fireside Hospitality: Keeping the December chill at bay, a continuous supply of hot drinks will be on offer - including some traditional festive tipples to have with some classic homemade yuletide treats, enjoyed by the fire.
Your finished creation will be 100% natural and biodegradable, and a beautiful piece of rustic Christmas charm to hang on your door.
