Beginner Alterations: Hems! - Ages 17 and up - For Strong Beginners

Are your pants too long? Have a dress not hitting in the right spot? Start your alteration journey by learning how to hem!
In this workshop, you will learn how to sew three very common garment hems: double turn hem, curved hem, and blind hem. After sewing each type of hem on precut fabric scraps, you will get to tackle a garment of your own! You can try it on and Jana will help you determine which type of hem to use, how much to take it up, and guide you through the alteration.
Recommended items: Light to medium weight woven garments (ex: linen, cotton, chambray) like button down shirts, trousers, pants (ex: khaki or chino style), casual skirts or dresses.
Garments to avoid: Stretch fabrics (ex: jersey tee shirts, leggings), evening wear fabrics (ex: satin, chiffon, beaded), heavyweight fabrics, jeans.

This class is for Strong Beginners and up, meaning you understand the basics of threading and operating a sewing machine.

Supplies:

• Fabric samples provided to learn techniques
• Sewing machine in good working condition with necessary attachments
• A few garments that you'd like to hem (see above for recommendations; contact beehiveclasses@gmail.com if you aren't sure whether a garment is the right fit for class)
• Thread that coordinates with your garment(s)
• Standard presser foot
• Blind hem presser foot (make sure it is the correct one for your machine make and model)

CLASS POLICIES
o Your spot will not be reserved in the class until payment is made in full.
o All students or their Parents/Guardians must sign a waiver before participating in class activities. This should be provided as a check box in your checkout process.
o This class has a 3 person minimum. Class may be cancelled if minimum is not met 48 hours prior to class.
o Beehive Craft Studio reserves the right to cancel a class at any time.
If we do so, you'll be issued a full refund.
o Inclement Weather Policy: We reserve the right to cancel class if we deem that weather would make traveling to class dangerous. Every attempt will be made to schedule a makeup for the missed class.

o No refunds for no-shows or cancellations within 48 hours of workshop. Refunds will be processed online within 48 hours of cancellation with the funds going back to your method of payment.
o Everyone works at different speeds and while we expect everyone to finish by the end of the workshop we can't guarantee it!
