Rooted in Rhythm II connects our desire to celebrate local talent with a wider cause to support the Marianas. Musician, Harmony Chea, returns with a song inspired by the recent typhoon events and we also welcome a new guest instructor, Peter Mafnas.
Arrive as early as 3:30pm for a soft landing space curated by Harmony. A brief introduction and breathwork exercise will kick off the beginner/intermediate commercial dance class.
Behind the Song
The day after Typhoon Sinlaku, Harmony drove around with her partner to find service and contact her loved ones, and saw what damaged the wind had done and how strong it was still blowing, but her true concern was that CNMI and Chuuk would soon be hit much harder.
So she sat down with her partner to write two intentions: 1) this song would give a loving reminder that all we can simply do to remain safe in our bodies is to “((( breathe )))” and 2) bring awareness to the world of what continues to happen to the Marianas because of climate injustice.
About Harmony
Harmony Chea is an independent artist, musician, and singer/songwriter from the island of Guåhan following her soul’s purpose toward sound and it’s healing. Now 26, she has been writing original music since she was 13 years old, and shape shifting through genres as she explores her passion for storytelling, world-building, and curating intimate experiences to connect with her audience and community.
About Peter
Peter Mafnas is a professional dancer/choreographer at Elite Guam Dance Academy, Co founder of House of Aces, and Dance Captain at the Sand Castle (Karera). What started as a hobby of dancing and entertaining for the family at home, to training under Step Up Entertainment in 2016, Peter has since then continued to grow in his craft in a wide variety of dance styles giving each choreography a different flavor, story, and feeling. His goal is to connect with audiences through video and live performances to visualize music in a new way, and to also help artists convey the emotion the music was intended to, making music and movement become one.

Where is Elite Guam Dance Academy?
Elite Guam Dance Academy is located at Tropical Quest Plaza, 934 S Marine Corps Dr Unit 108, Tamuning, 96913, Guam. Parking is available in front of and behind the building. The studio is located on the ground floor towards the back of the building.
When do you arrive?
Come as early as 3:30pm for the soft landing. We recommend arriving at least 5-10 mins before class starts, so you can sign in, make your donation and get settled.
What do you wear?
Wear comfortable clothes you can freely move in. Flat dance shoes, socks or bare feet are suitable for this class.
What do you bring?
A bottle of water and an open mind.
What level is this class?
This class is suitable for beginner and intermediate dancers. Modifications will be provided when needed.
