This industry-endorsed 2-day online course is designed for teachers, school staff, and professionals working with children and young people, equipping you with the knowledge and practical strategies needed to better support autistic and neurodivergent pupils to thrive in education, physical activity, and beyond.
*Develop a deeper understanding of autism and the implications for teaching, learning, participation, and pupil wellbeing.
*Gain confidence in adapting your communication to provide clear instructions, reduce anxiety, and support engagement in both the classroom and PE environment.
*Understand how sensory differences can affect a pupil's experience of school and learn practical ways to create more accessible and inclusive learning environments.
*Learn how to build positive, empathetic relationships that foster trust, improve participation, and support emotional regulation.
*Explore how neurodivergent pupils, including those with co-occurring conditions such as dyspraxia and hypermobility, can be supported through thoughtful teaching and session design to develop physical literacy, improve self-regulation, build confidence, and establish lifelong positive relationships with physical activity.
*Explore strategies to support pupils in managing transitions, routines, and participation across the school day, including PE and extracurricular activities.
Successful completion of the course awards 10 CPD points.
The course runs over 2 days. Your facilitators will be James Dewar-Haggart FCIMSPA (Ch) and Dr Ruth Moyse.
The start time each day is 9.00 am prompt. As this is an online course, please make sure you log on a few minutes early, so you can check you have a stable internet connection, and that your microphone and camera work. Please also make sure that you are joining from a quiet, confidential space.
We strive to accommodate all delegates' needs. If you have any accessibility or support requirements, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally 48 hours before the first day. Additionally, if you feel comfortable, please talk to one of your facilitators at the start of the session.
We aim to create a friendly and welcoming, low arousal space. Please wear clothes in which you feel comfortable and feel free to bring any fidget tools to help you stay focussed.
Your understanding of the content, and how to apply your learning in your setting, is continuously assessed by your facilitators as part of this course. There will also be a short end-of-course written assessment. To assist this, we ask you to:
• actively engage in discussions
• reflect on the concepts presented each day
• consider the implications for your practice
• complete action plans
• apply your learning to your setting during activities
You should bring a notepad to record personal reflections on the implications for your practice.
We ask you to provide brief end-of-day feedback on the course Modules and your readiness to coach autistic clients. Your views are vital for course improvement.
A pdf copy of the slides will be provided at the end of the course.
