Culture Vannin are delighted to present 'Isla Callister' performing her brand new solo album 'Myr Grian' (Like a Sun) in celebration of Blein ny Gaelgey (Year of the Manx Language) - Supported by An Corran.
Myr grian is an album inspired by the Manx language. It celebrates the language as a sustaining force of the Island’s music, culture and identity. From raw arrangements of traditional tunes and songs collected by the likes of Mona Douglas, to energetic new compositions inspired by Tom Taggart and his sinful cello and whiskey loving native Manx speakers, there are many shades and threads to the music. All with one key message, the importance of ensuring the language continues to flourish.
In this one off concert, Isla Callister brings together a group of musicians from the Isle of Man, Ireland and Scotland to perform the album for the very first time. Joining Isla in Peel Cathedral is Cathal Ó Curráin (Bazouki) from Ireland, Rory Matheson (Piano) and Craig Baxter (Bodhrán) from Scotland and the Island’s very own Ruth Keggin and David Kilgallon.
Providing support for the concert are 'An Corran' who are also celebrating the imminent release of their new album.
Culture Vannin would like to thank HANSARD for their generous sponsorship of this very special concert along with the Domestic Event Fund for their continued support throughout Year of the Manx Language.
