The Engagement Model Training is the Department for Education’s official training package delivered by an accredited Engagement Model Lead Trainer.
The training is for Local Authority Advisors, Head Teachers, Senior Leaders, SENCOs, Data and Assessment leads and Governors in both mainstream primary and secondary schools and specialist settings.
The engagement model is an assessment tool that helps schools meet their duties in supporting pupils who are working below the level of the national curriculum and who are not engaged in subject-specific study.
The engagement model was made statutory from September 2021, replacing P scales 1 to 4.
The sessions will be led by Ellen Croft, Vice Principal at Ash Field Academy, Director of the Inclusion & SEND Hub and Specialist Leader of Education SEND. Ellen is a DfE Engagement Model Lead Trainer and a Trustee on the EQUALS National Board of Trustees.
Ash Field Academy is a school for children and young people with Physical Disabilities including those with Severe, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties in Leicester City.
Ash Field Academy uses the areas of engagement alongside other personalised assessment frameworks to support the learning of pupils not yet accessing the National Curriculum as part of their approach to personalised learning. Ash Field Academy is an outstanding school and has been recognised for its' outstanding provision for children and young people with severe and profound and multiple learning disabilities.
The training is delivered via the Department for Education’s package which consists of 2 sessions aimed at helping schools and authorities to understand and embed the model.
Session 1: Understanding the Engagement Model and the use of observations, policy and CPD
Session 2: Plan, Do, Review & Reporting and accountability
Sessions will take place at Ash Field Academy, Broad Avenue, Leicester, LE5 4PY.
