Breath - Space - Volume CI Workshop - Zürich (13-18 Uhr)

Contact Improvisation workshop taught by Sole and Mark

• A day of somatic explorations, technical skills and improvisational work

Breath as a gateway and bridge between sensing and moving from our inner landscape, the wider space and others. Our breath can offer us easy access to modulate our tone and arrive in a sensory and dancing body. It shapes, shifts and influences all parts of our bodies, and it adds timing, rhythms and focus in relation to others. As we expand or condense our volume, we find new possibilities for weight-sharing, momentum and contact.

We’ll move between gentle somatic explorations, more specific experiential anatomy of our lungs based on Body-Mind CenteringⓇ, and choreographic and technical CI aspects. Exploring how we can connect our breaths to that of others, and use the volume of our bodies to under- and overdance.

You can expect a mixture of solo explorations, technical skills exercises and open group scores that emphasise the improvisational nature of CI. Open to all levels.

Mark Rietema (DE/UK)
Mark teaches Somatics and CI in London and abroad, and offers workshops, lectures and group facilitation around embodiment, dance and mental health in Universities, the NHS and grassroots groups. He works as a psychotherapist and somatic educator, having studied Process Oriented Psychology and Body-Mind Centering®. His previous background is in community art projects and performances (UK, US) with an MA in Community Arts (Goldsmiths). He teaches as faculty for Embody Move UK and the Institut Prozessarbeit Deutschland, and as an associate in Kings College. Mark is part of the organising team for the London Contact Festival and Goldsmiths jams & classes.

Soledad de la Hoz (ES/UK)

Sole trained at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

She has performed extensively in opera and theatre productions (ROH, Royal Court Theatre, Glyndebourne, ENO) as well as immersive dance and screen productions, working with notable choreographers such as Aleta Collins, Anna Morrissey, Maxine Doyle, Marie-Gabrielle Rotie, Scarlett Mackmin, Jennifer White and Lisa Welham.

In addition to her professional dancing, Sole is a trained Thai massage therapist and has a deep love and interest in Contact. Improvisation has an immense positive benefit on her movement practice and well-being. She is very happy to continue developing in this field by training and teaching.
