This training day explores how children develop the physical, cognitive and emotional skills they need for writing. We’ll unpick what writing actually is, not just the mechanics of mark making, but also the thinking, feeling and communicating that sits beneath it. Together, we’ll consider how to create an environment and a curriculum that nurture confident writers who see writing as purposeful, enjoyable and achievable.
Aims of the day:
To understand the developmental journey towards writing, from early physical skills to symbolic representation.
To look at common misconceptions around ‘early writing readiness’ and how to challenge them.
To identify strategies and provision that embed writing meaningfully into children’s everyday experiences.
To feel confident in supporting writing development across the EYFS and into Year 1.
