Solstice Stillness: A Yin, Breath & Nidra Journey

Solstice Stillness is a 3-hour seasonal retreat designed to support deep rest and restoration through a soothing blend of Yin Yoga, breathwork, meditation, and Yoga Nidra.

Together, we’ll honour the Winter Solstice — the turning point of the year and the gentle return to the light — through mindful movement and stillness. This session offers you time to slow down, release the year so far, and reconnect with your inner calm, so you leave floating into Christmas week feeling peaceful, grounded, and renewed.

✨ What to Expect

Yin Yoga is a slow, deeply meditative style of yoga inspired by the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. Postures are held for longer periods to gently stimulate the body’s energy channels (meridians), helping to clear energetic blockages and restore balance. Yin targets the deeper connective tissues — fascia, tendons, and ligaments — to support flexibility, circulation, and inner stillness.

Yoga Nidra, or “yogic sleep”, is a guided meditation practised lying down. It invites you into a state between wakefulness and sleep — a place of deep, conscious rest where body and mind can fully let go.

Absolutely no yoga experience is needed. You don’t need to be flexible, fit, or strong — just come as you are and allow yourself to rest.

Suitability
This workshop is not suitable for early pregnancy, extreme hypermobility, osteoporosis, or recent surgery.

Welcome! Here's some details...

Venue:
Balanced Fitness is on Lamb's Pend which is the lane off the High Street in Penicuik next to the tanning shop. It's like going into an office block but once you're in it's easy to find. If you need help, then please message me in advance and I can meet you at 12:45

As the session is 3 hours long - please DO NOT park in the car park at B&M. Ideally park on Bridge Street, West Street, Croft Street, Broomhill Road, Bog Road etc so you can forget entirely about parking and not end up with one of those tickets as it's automated with the cameras.

Timekeeping:
Please arrive 5 minutes early to the class if you can - I know life happens but if you can give yourself time to settle in.

Bring:

  • Your own yoga mat (for hygiene) - some mats will be available - be confident we can sort this out
  • Two pillows (please do not get anxious about these - no one will see them - just take two pillows off your bed and pop them in a bag - we will not be having a pillow comparing session!)
  • Blanket
  • Warm socks
  • Layers
