Creative Wellbeing Art Sessions – Connah’s Quay

What if one evening a month became a place to slow down?
A place to breathe, make, explore — and gently reconnect with yourself and others.

These Creative Wellbeing Art Sessions are relaxed, welcoming community evenings where creativity is used as a practice for health and wellbeing, not for performance or perfection.

Wednesday 29th April | 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Join us for a relaxed, two-hour creative session designed to support wellbeing, confidence and creative exploration.

Each monthly session offers a different experience, introducing new materials, techniques and themes. The focus is not on producing perfect artwork, but on enjoying the process of making, experimenting and discovering your own creative voice.

This session will include:

Watercolour and acrylic painting at easels

A guided exploration of an estuary and bridge scene

Opportunity to experiment with clay and the potter’s wheel

Gentle creative guidance throughout

You’ll be supported to work at your own pace in a calm, welcoming environment where there is no pressure or expectation.

Each monthly session offers a choice of creative activities, so you can follow what feels right for you on the day. There is no pressure to produce anything “good” — the value is in the process, the presence, and the permission to explore.

You might:

paint at an easel (indoors or outside by the river)

work with clay or mod-roc sculpture

experiment with acrylics, watercolour or mixed media

take part in gentle, shared community creations

or simply sit, observe and begin when you’re ready

There is space to move, space to rest, and space to just be.

Why Art for Wellbeing?

Creative activity engages the hands, body and mind together. It slows the nervous system, builds focus, and offers expression when words are hard to find.

Creative practice has been shown to support people experiencing:

stress, overwhelm or burnout

anxiety or low mood

loneliness or isolation

low confidence or feeling “stuck”

difficulty switching off or relaxing

Over time, regular creative practice can help build confidence, emotional regulation, resilience and a sense of belonging — in a way that feels human, accessible and non-clinical.

Who These Sessions Are For

These sessions are open to everyone in the community, especially if you:

feel overwhelmed by modern life

are experiencing stress, anxiety or low mood

feel disconnected or isolated

are caring for others and need space for yourself

want a gentle, supportive way to look after your wellbeing

feel curious about creativity but don’t think you’re “arty”

Ages 12–101 are welcome.
Young people under 16 must attend with a parent, guardian or responsible adult.

No experience needed.
No confidence required.
Curiosity is enough.

The Space

Sessions take place at the Connah’s Quay Sea Cadets Hall (Kathleen & May Heritage Centre) — a beautifully refurbished community building with river views, a covered outdoor area, and room to sit, stand, move or rest.

We have access to:

indoor and outdoor creative spaces

easels for seated or standing work

a kitchen area for comfort breaks

a calm, contained environment where the whole building is ours for the evening

It’s an ideal space to slow down, breathe, and create together.

About the Facilitator

Jayne Hopwood is an artist, designer and creative wellbeing facilitator, and the founder of Arts for Health & Wellbeing CIC.

Creativity has been central to Jayne’s own journey through anxiety, depression and not feeling like she quite belonged in a demanding world. Art offered her space to regulate, reflect and reconnect — not by fixing anything, but by allowing her to be human.

For over ten years, Jayne has delivered creative programmes across community, charity and public-sector settings, supporting people of all ages to use creativity as a tool for wellbeing, confidence and connection.

Jayne is Group C Safeguarding trained (UK, CPD) and works with a strong emphasis on emotional safety, inclusion and choice.
