Want to be able to swim in cold water? Cold water swimming is an extreme sport. It’s really important to have the correct knowledge to keep you safe. Come along to this session & learn how to start this chilly hobby. The perfect way to start swimming in colder months, all done at your own pace, with no pressure. Ideal for beginners & those who want to top up their safety knowledge.
Getting into cold water may seem unthinkable to some people. For me, it is essential. I love how it makes me feel and the health benefits that come with it.
Cold water swimming can also be a dangerous thing to do if you go without any knowledge of what you are doing.
The introduction to cold water swimming sessions are a great way to delve into the chilly season. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try cold water swimming, but didn’t know where to begin, or you started swimming during the summertime and would love to continue but aren’t sure how to approach the colder temperatures.
With the guidance from an experienced cold water and ice swimmer, a qualified open water swim coach, I can help you to enjoy the exhilarating experience.
I will talk you through the safety aspects, how to prepare before and after your swim, what to expect physically and mentally and most importantly, I will guide you through the swim.
I will give a safety talk before we enter the water, and cover such things as cold water shock, breathing techniques and after effects. The session will not include any distance swimming, it is more about the experience of the cold water, rather than how far we can swim. The swim is short, but a lot of fun.
You can wear either a wet suit or just regular swimming costume/trunks. It is a good idea to wear something on your feet like water shoes, surf booties, or even old trainers. You could wear a woolly hat to swim, as we certainly won’t be putting our heads under the water. Or wear a regular swimming hat.
It is essential to have layers of easy to put on, warm clothes for afterwards, including warm socks, gloves and hat. Please bring a warm drink with you.
It’s essential to wrap up warm. I will be talking for a while; this is done outside and I don’t want you getting too cold before you attempt to enter the water. Make sure you have eaten breakfast and are hydrated.
