Celebration Day Programme
10-12.30pm Morning Session Turning Within: Twists, Inversions and Standing Poses
This energising morning practice invites you to explore how twists, inversions, and standing postures can restore balance and vitality. The session begins with movements to support digestion and spinal mobility, gradually progressing into active and passive inversions that use gravity as a teacher - cultivating both surrender and strength. It will conclude with grounding standing postures to stabilise and integrate the morning’s energy.
1:30 pm – 4pm Afternoon Session Finding Balance in Practice: Ayurveda & Yoga Nidra
The afternoon offers a calm and reflective exploration of how yoga can support your personal wellbeing through the lens of Ayurveda. Participants will take a short dosha self-assessment to identify their natural constitution and learn how to adapt practice and lifestyle accordingly.
Ankit will guide a discussion on how different yoga approaches - dynamic or restorative, heating or cooling - influence both body and mind. The session will end with a deeply restorative Yoga Nidra, inviting profound rest and integration of the day’s experience.
Ankit Kumar
Ankit began his yoga journey in India, where he completed a Master’s degree in Yoga, specialising in traditional Hatha Yoga and philosophy. He went on to train at the Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre under the guidance of Sharat, a direct student of B.K.S. Iyengar. Sharat’s unique integration of footwork and precise alignment has had a lasting influence on Ankit’s teaching style.
Ankit’s approach weaves together dynamic and static practices, emphasising mindful movement, conscious breath and inner awareness. His teaching aims to make yoga accessible to everyone, honouring its spiritual depth while embracing a modern, holistic understanding of body, mind, and wellbeing.
Some of you may know Ankit from last year's SYA session, the Southampton International Yoga Day or the International Yoga Festival. SYA are delighted to welcome Ankit back to Durley!
