Woodland Heritage Surveying 4 - Pits & Platforms
Saturday, 18 November 2023 - 10.00-12.30
Free. Meet at Charles Ashmore Rd car park

Woodlands, particularly ancient woodlands are highly suited to the preservation of monuments associated to past human activity and Graves Park is no exception. From the trees themselves, which can preserve evidence of historic woodland management, to the network of historic tracks, boundaries, charcoal production sites, and quarries, woodlands can play an important role in highlighting how the landscape has been used and exploited through the ages.

During this survey we will undertake a woodland archaeological survey, to record the surviving monuments in the park’s woods. The results of this survey will inform us about how the ancient woodlands have been used in the past and contribute towards the overall heritage survey data collected as part of the Finding Lost Norton Park: digging deeper for all project. The collated data will serve as a permanent regional record of the park’s history and landscape development.

Full training and equipment will be provided.

Please wear sturdy shoes/boots and dress appropriately for the outdoors. The event will take place away from well-established footpaths. Please feel free to bring food and drink.
