With continued research confirming that children and young people are not as active as the generations before them, and the important physical, social and emotional health risks associated with such data, there is a need to facilitate more opportunities for more movement. Schools and clubs are prime sites to encourage people to be active and find joy in doing so.

The Athletic Skill Model provides a framework to think about skilful movement across the lifespan, encompassing transfer of learning, physical literacy and developmental perspectives.

This webinar will share ideas and evidence behind the Athletic Skill Model and how this approach to movement can support your children/young people to become more competent, confident and versatile movers.

We will also share details of a forthcoming ASM Instructor course which will assist you to support pupils’ development and fostering a lasting and enjoyable relationship with sports and physical activity. to support the design and plan of structured programmes that focus on developing versatile movers

The ASM consists of 3 building blocks:

  1. Fundamental Movement Skills (= development of versatile movers)
  2. Coordinative abilities (= enhancing the quality of movement)
  3. Conditions of movement (= increasing fitness levels).
