This is a purely throwing course for those looking to hone their skills on the wheel in a small group of students, suitable for beginners and intermediates.
During session 1–4, you will be guided through a series of exercises. You will learn how to throw cylinders evenly and efficiently, throw and turn footed bowls, plates and lidded vessels. You will be introduced to techniques of repetition throwing, pulling handles and lips. In session 5, you will be given an introduction to glazing and surface decoration. In session 5-10, you will have time to work on your own projects and ask specific questions relevant to your development.
This course will be led by Sean, who began his ceramics journey in 2018 and quickly became an important part of The Kiln Rooms community. Now a member at Copeland Park and working as both teacher and technician, he is a much-loved, supportive presence in the studio.
In the event of illness or annual leave, one of our other experienced teachers would lead the session in his place.
Taking place on Thursday mornings, 10am-1pm, the cost for the 10 week course is £395. Materials, glazing and firing are charged at £5 per kg of finished work (for example, a teacup is approximately £1).
All 10-week course participants have booking access to optional drop-in sessions, offering additional studio time outside class hours - ideal for those who would like extra practice without committing to full membership.
If you miss a class or arrive late, we are unable to reschedule sessions or provide alternative studio time, as courses run at fixed times to cover the cost of tuition.
Refunds:
Cancellations made 20 days or more before the start date receive a full refund (minus a £5 booking fee). Between 20 and 10 days before the start date, 50% of fees will be refunded (minus booking fee). No refunds are available within 9 days of the start date or once the course has begun.

Located 250 meters from Peckham Rye station:
Exit left and once on Holly Grove turn right. Cross Rye Lane and head towards the 'Peckhamplex' cinema. Veer right down the side of the building. The main entrance is 100m on the left. Walk up the yellow stairs to the Level 1 door. There will be security who will sign you in and point you to our studio, which is on level 2.
On Mondays & Tuesdays: the main door to Peckham Levels is closed, so to access the security desk please enter the carpark on the ground floor and go up the ramp, which has 'members entrance' written on it. It's where cars were driven to access the higher floors and is now a double wooden door with a bell.
