Details

Join us this winter for The Oak Circus Centre's All Access Arts SEND Holiday Activities! Together with local arts experts, we’re bringing you an exciting mix of circus skills like juggling, trapeze, hula hooping, hammock, slackline, and trampette, plus theatre games, movement fun, and creative visual arts. Designed with accessibility and fun at the heart, the sessions are aimed specifically for children and youth with SEND needs. We keep our SEND sessions small, and adapt to the needs of the participants so whatever your child's needs we will aim to get them involved at their pace. It’s flexible, inclusive, and all about having a great time—so come and join the fun!

Free spaces with Big Norfolk Holiday Fun:
Sessions are funded by Big Norfolk Holiday Fun and are aimed at SEND children eligible for benefits-related free school meals.

SEND NEEDS:
This session is open to children and young people aged 6 to 16 with SEND needs.  These sessions are created to be as accessible as possible, please let us know as much detail about any additional requirements as possible so that we can help make their experience as enjoyable as possible.
If you can it would be great if you can fill in the attached 'all about me' form and email it to - info@theoakcircuscentre.org, so that we can inform our tutors in advanced of your child's needs, what works for them etc. Otherwise just put as much detail as you can into the booking form.

What to expect
Participants can expect a mix of engaging and fun activities, sure to get them moving, combining circus skills such as juggling, trampette and aerial hammock, with movement, theatre games and visual arts. Each attendee will receive a nutritious meal, so please do let us know of any dietary requirements in advance on the booking form so we can cater for this. Parents/carers/siblings are welcome to join if they would like, or you can drop off and have time to yourself.

Instructions

PRIOR TO ARRIVAL

  • Participants need to wear WARM flexible clothing that is comfortable to move in and not a problem for going upside down, preferably covering the legs for protection for aerial work. The venue is a church and can be cold in the winter so participants should wear lots of layers and thick socks or indoor shoes that they can use on the training floor.

  • Children should bring a water bottle, but we can provide water if they forget. Funded places have a hot meal automatically provided. Please let us know if you child has any food requirements if we are catering for them.

  • Pre-booking is now essential, even for drop-in classes. Booking is via our website, email only. There is no cash handling or taking payments at the door.

  • Please let us know if your child has any allergies.

ON ARRIVAL

  • For youth classes – Check in with reception on arrival, everything is digitized there should be no need to handle paperwork or cash. Please let the tutors know if someone else will be picking up your child for safeguarding reasons.

  • Each student will be allocated a space to put their personals, and must keep their personals contained within this area.

  • Labelled cubby holes are reserved for staff use.

USE OF TOILETS

  • Ensure that you read and abide by notices and staff instructions and signage about bathroom and facilities when using the bathroom. There will be one bathroom dedicated to students during class time, and one for staff and professionals. Please stick to the allocated bathroom.

DURING CLASS

  • Students are expected to abide by the safety requirements and requests from the tutors and to treat others and class equipment with respect. If the student is unable to do so they may be asked to take time out, or if the student is repeatedly unable to do so the parent may be asked to pick them up. We realise flexibility may be required for SEND students but we must also take into account the safety of the student, staff and other participants. SEND classes have a much higher staff/student ratio.

BEFORE LEAVING

  • Take all personal belongings and equipment with you.
  • Youth students must leave with their parent/guardian/carer.
