AERIAL SILKS class (beginner to high beginner level) - in studio

Details

The silks (swathes of fabric divided into two 'posts') are rigged to the truss via a mount professionally fitted.

This is a class for beginners or those who have taken a break and want to come back to the sport but we’ll push you if you are a higher level.

Until the student has the strength to carry their weight just using the upper body, a ‘hitch’ (knot) will be added to the silks to help with the moves. Those who don’t need it will have flowing silk posts instead.

Level: BEGINNER

This event is for women only.

Instructions

General Notes

• Please wear sports leggings, not loose pants (they can get caught in the fabric) as well as long sleeves to protect skin from friction burns. Remove all jewellery before class (it can damage equipment, ripping the fabric, and cause injury by making the apparatus unsafe).
• Do not use body lotion or cream before class.
• Bring water – staying hydrated is essential.
• Arrive (or log in) no more than five minutes early because there could be another class before yours, or the instructors may still be setting up. If you are not let in immediately, it is likely that nobody is available to open the door/start the zoom meeting, so please be patient, we shall be with you as soon as possible.
• Listen to your body – rest when needed and let your instructor know about any injuries.

Ages: 5 to adult. NB: children (5-12) need to be accompanied by a paying adult.

Specific to Aerial Silks classes

• Clothing: Ideally fully covered including long sleeves.
• Optional/extras: Grip aid if preferred, a small towel for your own comfort. Bring a bottle of water. Fresh towels are available at the studio free of charge.
• Avoid: Lotions/oils before class (they make equipment slippery and unsafe). Best way to use body lotions, if you do, is to apply the night before class.

Terms & Conditions

By booking a class, you agree to our T&Cs.
• Cancellations: No refunds or transfers if cancelled less than 48h before class (24h for online classes). With more than 48h/24h notice, we’ll try to move your booking within the same month (subject to availability).
• Refunds: Any refund issued (for any reason other than the studio's own cancellation) incurs a 5% payment platform cancellation fee.

• SPECIFIC ONLINE CLASS DISCLAIMER: insurance limitations bind online booking. Failure to use a crash mat may invalidate our insurance. Aerial arts are considered "high risk sports" and activities taking place relatively high off the floor may not be covered as spotting is not possible online. It is a very grey area, and insurances are struggling to let us know what is covered and what isn't, but the general rule seems to be, if it's an advanced/challenging move you have never attempted before, without proper mats, it will not be covered.
