The Virgin and Child

The painting behind the high altar in the University Church, is one of a number of versions by Simon Vouet and his studio of a celebrated composition painted c.1639–1640. In this session, the Revd Canon Dr Will Lamb, with colleagues from the Ashmolean Museum, will offer a presentation on this altarpiece and draw out its theological and artistic significance. The session will close with the beautiful office of Compline or Night Prayer.
