This European Heritage Open Day, discover a hidden treasure where history, craft, and nature come alive. This year’s theme, “Heritage at Risk – Revive, Resist, Reimagine,” shines a light on the stories behind spaces rarely open to the public, and The Walled Garden is the perfect example.
Garden Open to All 🕥 10:00am – 1:00pm – Free entry, no booking needed
Stroll at your own pace through the red brick walls, explore the restored Gardeners’ Cottages, and step inside the Glasshouse. Enjoy the colours, scents, and the quiet charm of a garden lovingly restored with sustainability, heritage, and community at its heart. Dogs are welcome on leads.
Guided Garden Tour 🕚 11:00am – Booking advised, limited to 40 places
For a deeper dive, join owners James and Lorraine Small on a short guided walk. Hear the story of the garden’s past, the restoration work in progress, and their vision for the future. The tour offers a fascinating insight into the care and craft needed to preserve our historic spaces.
Whether you’re a family, garden lover, or heritage enthusiast, this is a rare opportunity to experience a living restoration project. Wander, explore, and be inspired by a space where history and creativity meet, and see how a once-forgotten garden is being revived for generations to come.
Refreshments and Treats
Tea, coffee, and traybakes will be available, along with our tempting range of homemade Walled Garden jams, chutneys, and award-winning fudge, with all proceeds supporting the garden’s upkeep. As restoration is ongoing, Wi-Fi is not yet available and phone signal can be limited, so we recommend bringing cash to avoid disappointment.
