If you are from a school in any of the Wandle English Hub's 16 boroughs, you have an Ofsted rating of RI/Inadequate and/or phonics screening check scores below national average, and you are a Headteacher or a Reading Leader, you can now book a place on our Early Reading Showcase.
Fully-funded places are for schools who meet two of the following criteria:
• Less than 82% in PSC in 2019 • A higher than average proportion of pupils reading
below age-related expectations • Pupil premium above 22% • Ofsted judgement of Requires Improvement or Inadequate
The Wandle Early Reading Showcases are free, half day training events where senior leaders can share best practice in phonics and early reading.
The showcases will provide all participants with an opportunity to share best practise in the teaching of systematic, synthetic phonics.
Content of a showcase event:
Introduction to the work of the DfE’s 34 English Hubs
Opportunity to watch and discuss a recorded Nursery session focusing on oral blending
Opportunity to watch and discuss a full phonics lesson in Reception
Opportunity to watch and discuss a Y1 ‘keep up’ session
Time to reflect in breakout rooms with other professionals
Support with creating your own action plan to evaluate and identify next steps with reading provision at your school
Guidance on accessing further support from the Wandle English Hub including access to funding for training and decodable books.
The showcase will be repeated throughout the academic year to maximise support offered to schools.
There are two places at this event for each school. We insist that these places are taken by the headteacher and phonics lead or EY/KS1 senior teacher to ensure maximum impact.
Please note that these events are targeted and funded for schools that have an Ofsted rating of RI/Inadequate and those with phonics screening check scores below national average.
