A week long snowshoeing adventure based in Zermatt.
With our own private chalet for a week, you will be able to relax, enjoy the atmosphere of Zermatt at your leisure, with five guided snowshoeing days and a day for you to explore at your own steam, this is truly the best way to experience this wonderful Swiss town in the mountains
The routes will be dependant upon weather and avalanche conditions, but be assured there will be the most incredible snowshoeing routes to enjoy, with Lunches at high mountain restaurants with top quality food.
You do not need any experience for this trip, skills will be taught for those who are first time.
Snowshoeing is essentially winter hiking. Snow depths are typically too much to be able to walk in just footwear alone across the Alps in winter, therefore using specially designed shoes fixing to our boots enables us to 'float' across the snow.
The days will be relaxed, on gentle trails learning to master the shoes whilst exercising new muscles we may have forgotten existed 😅
This trip will give five guided days out with Hayley, who is a Qualified International mountain leader, trained specifically to take snowshoeing excursions. With travel, you need to allow eight days altogether. Zermatt isn't the quickest place to get to, but with the Iconic Matterhorn and chocolate shops who wouldn't want to visit, especially in winter. You won't want to leave I guarantee it.
Accommodation is on a shared basis, with twin rooms and en suite.
Our chalet is a little out of the main centre of town, and it's a little adventure to get to it, which was enjoyed by previous guests. It has its own sauna, drying room and a lovely lounge and kitchen area to enjoy relaxing in the evenings.
Breakfast and evening meals are included, Hayley will shop for essentials (with some help from you all) and prepare evening meals, including typical Swiss Fondue one evening. There will be soft drinks available at the chalet. Lunch, drinks and extras are to be paid for.

Be under no illusion. This is not a cheap trip. But, Switzerland is not cheap, and Zermatt has that added extra costs associated with it just being Zermatt. If, however you really want to experience Zermatt once in your life. This is the way to do it.
Flying to Geneva airport and making your way to Zermatt is very straightforward.
A train will go directly from the airport to Zermatt, with one change.
Full details will be in the joining email when you make a booking.
I would like to coordinate everyone's arrival to Zermatt to then check into the chalet together, that way we get help with the luggage and buses.
Flights from Edinburgh or Manchester are roughly £130-£175 depending upon luggage, times and location.
Train to Zermatt. . £100 each way roughly.
Peak pass for cable car unlimited access (recommended). £270 for six days. (Approx)
You will require -

Thermal base layer top. ×2
Mid layer - fleece, gilet, primaloft ×1/2 depending upon your personal temperatures
Outer layer - down jacket, ski jacket
Socks ×3/4
Underwear
Comfortable boots- hiking boots are fine, they don't have to be special, but think warmth. I'm using winter B2 boots because I am comfy in them. Please feel free to discuss boots with me.
Walking poles with ski baskets - essential
Sunglasses (you may have ski goggles for sunny conditions or both)
Suncream
Hat
Gloves - two pairs minimum thick and thin
Spare layer in case of cold

Rucksack. This must fit your spare layers, lunch and have room to fit a small shovel and probe inside for avalanche safety. I use a 35 litre which just fits as larger hand luggage on easy jet. But - poles often have to go in the hold.
For reference my personal clothing system is as follows -
Stance ski socks
-Rab thin base layer leggings
-Mammut Eiger Speed Pro SO Hybrid pants (or thick Haglofs thermal base layer pants and marmot waterproof ski touring trousers, depending upon weather)
-Marmot long sleeved base layer with thumb loops
-Arcteryx atom vest (gilet)
-Rab Vapourise Jacket
-Mammut softshell and primaloft jacket (I mix between the last 2)
-Paramo torres insulated jacket for super warmth
-Montane switch glove
-Montane prism dryline primaloft glove
-Mammut eiger extreme B3 boot (because I love them and they keep my feet warm, but are overkill)
-Marmot knitted beanie (you will receive a hat from me)
-Hayley Webb Buff
-Ortovox 35l Peak rucksack
Black diamond trail trekking poles with baskets
-Oakley cat 3 sunglasses
-mountain equipment peak sunvisor
-1 litre nalgene bottle
Hopefully this helps to see what I take with me.
