Details

For your youngest explorers and their grown ups, this programme of weekly sessions is all about child-centred play and adventuring! We will be making mud pies & potions, swinging in the hammock, balancing on the fallen logs, and exploring the woodland and the creatures that live there. Sessions include stories and activities designed to inspire curiosity and creativity. We support children to begin to develop a connection to the natural world by experiencing it as a joyful place to play - somewhere that they will grow to love and want to protect. There will be the chance to use some simple tools and to cook on a campfire during the programme.

We encourage adults to join in the play and take some time to connect with other local parents/carers and enjoy the benefits of spending some time together outdoors in nature.

These sessions will take place on our beech tree site in the beautiful woodland of Warley Woods.
Please see the map in the event attachments for how to find us

Instructions

We are really pleased to be able to bring you another half term of forest school in Warley Woods. We ask families to book for the whole block of session, which will enable us to have consistent groups of children and parents. We find this really supports relationship building and a feeling of community.

Forest school takes place in all weathers, throughout the seasons. Especially during the colder months please ensure you have plenty of layers of clothing to keep you and your children warm and dry. You can always take layers off if you get too warm. We recommend wellies or waterproof walking boots with warm socks, a waterproof top layer, and long sleeves and trousers all year round to help protect from scratches, stings, sunburn and bites.

Expect your children to get muddy and dirty – we want them to be free to explore and get the full sensory experience at forest school - plus research has shown that playing in mud makes us feel calmer and more relaxed!

We will provide a drink and snack but please feel free to bring your own as well to keep those hungry tummies happy.

We have hand washing facilities on site and ask that everyone washes their hands on the way into and out of the site and before eating. There are also hand washing facilities, toilets and a baby change in the Warley Woods pavilion – please do try to remove as much mud from boots before going inside. There’s a ramp available to enable access into the pavilion, please ask in the shop and a member of staff will arrange that for you.

Coffees and food are available from the cafe in the pavilion and The Happy Coffee Man is usually in Warley Woods, on the main path by the Abbey Road entrance.
