Monday Full Day for Teens! (11-16yrs)

Details

Forest School is a child-centered learning process that gives opportunities for growth through regular sessions. Activities aim to support play, exploration and supported risk taking. It also develops confidence and self-esteem through hands on experiences in an outdoor, natural setting.

Monday Home Ed sessions are open from March until the Christmas holidays in December excluding bank holidays and Easter, May and October half term breaks. We run through the Summer holidays

Policies and our term time sheet can be found attached below

Instructions

Driving to our site

Within The Wood Direction Video

Please enter using the reservoir road, not past Ponden Mill Campsite as this road has large potholes, and Ponden Mill is often used for weddings. To protect our environment, we ask you to car share where possible, to turn your engines off while waiting to pick up, and to take your litter home. We also ask if you could park with enough space for local residents, tractors and most importantly emergency service vehicles to get past, and to drive sensibly, acting with respect to our neighbours. Be aware that there are often walkers, dogs and children on the road so we recommend sticking to 15mph for everybody's safety.

What children should wear and bring:

Our site in Stanbury has a river running through the woodland which attracts a large amount of midges. Please pack insect repellent in your child’s bag (‘Avon- Skin So Soft’ is a great skin care product that is gentle on children’s skin, the environment and works as insect repellent).

Food and Drink

-Sessions can be extremely active, so if your child would benefit from a packed lunch or snacks, they are welcome to bring these and eat them at any time. We ask food is brought in a named and sealed lunch box.
-Due to the risk of nut allergies there should be NO NUTS or food containing nuts in the lunch box.
-Children must bring a water bottle.

Clothing

It is one of the basic needs of children to stay dry and at a comfortable temperature so that they can enjoy their sessions.

-Please use a rucksack rather than a bag as we do lots of exploring that requires free hands for safety.
-All children need to wear sensible footwear. Wellies are very cold in winter months, so if your child is wearing wellies ensure they also wear thick, warm socks. Waterproof walking boots/walking shoes are ideal for all seasons.
-No sandals, crocs or other open shoes to be worn for Forest School.
-Children to wear long trousers and socks to protect their legs from scratches and stings.
-During cold and wet weather children should wear waterproofs to their session. It is advised that parents pack a waterproof overall all year round in case of a sudden change of weather.
-Please pack warm waterproof gloves in cold seasons.
-In sunny weather, loose, light coloured, long sleeved clothing is the best for keeping cool. Please also pack a sun hat and ensure your child has had sun cream applied. If your child is able to apply their own sun cream, they can bring this in their bags as well.
-Please name tag all clothing.

Sickness & Illness

If a child becomes ill during the a session we will contact the provided numbers to ask them up as soon as possible. During this time they will be cared for in a quiet, calm area with a member of staff.

Should a child have an infectious disease, such as an eye/ear infection or sickness and diarrhoea, they should not return to Forest School until they have been clear for at least 24 hours.

Refund Policy

We have a 5 day refund policy for Forest School bookings. Once booked onto the block of sessions it is not possible to cancel your sessions if within the refund policy window. If a session is missed due to illness or holiday, then this will not be refunded.

If a Forest School session is cancelled due to adverse weather conditions or if Within The Wood cancels due to unforeseen circumstances, (such as illness of staff) then the session will be added to the end of the block. If you cannot make this date it will be refunded.

Risk in Forest School

Please note that at Forest School there is an element of risk during sessions. This risk is supported and is tailored to each individual child’s needs, abilities and development. Every possible effort on our behalf will be made to minimise the chance of injury (minor & serious) though when leading outdoor activities in a wild and natural environment, there is a chance of injury (minor & serious). By booking your child onto our Forest School sessions you understand that this risk is a possibility and you are happy for your child to take part in these activities. Please contact us for any questions or queries on this.
