Discover the art of traditional bookmaking in this hands-on workshop, where children will learn and develop their skills in creating beautiful notebooks completely from scratch.
Throughout the 7 weeks, students will explore a range of creative techniques including papermaking, marbling, and bookbinding. Children will create their own handmade paper using different materials, and experiment with colour and pattern through marbling.
They will then learn the traditional Japanese stab-binding technique, constructing their own unique notebook entirely by hand. This introductory course provides a wonderful foundation in bookmaking and gives children an understanding of the creative journey from pulp to cover.
This workshop encourages creativity, patience, and experimentation in a calm and supportive environment, while introducing children to traditional crafts and the joy of making something truly one of a kind. By making books by hand, children can develop an appreciation for reading, writing, and storytelling from a fun and immersive perspective. Books are not just objects, but places where ideas, imagination, and creativity can thrive.
