Details

Due to the popularity of this trip in previous years, we have booked the Angel II narrowboat for a weeks residential trip this summer.

What is it?
A residential trip on the 72ft, traditional narrowboat 'Angel II'
During their time on the boat, everyone will take part in all aspects of the trip - helping with the locks, steering the boat, cooking food and cleaning up as a group.
There will be an additional activity on one of the days (swimming, aqua splash, cinema etc...) and this will be decided during the trip, we will also take a few paddleboards to use in the afternoons.

As so many of our members want to take part the trip will be split again into two groups, each spending 2.5 days on the boat.

Group 1 will be Monday morning to Wednesday lunchtime
Group 2 will be Wednesday lunchtime to Friday afternoon.

All young people will leave and return to Leaside and we will swap the groups over by minibus on Wednesday.

As part of the experience of spending time on the boat and being away from the hustle of the city, mobile phone use will be limited to an hour per day and the young people will be expected to switch their phones off and hand them in during the day. Parents will still be able to get hold of the group through Leaside for the duration of the trip.
This worked very well last year and some of the young people even thanked us as they got to experience the benefits of switching off.

Who is it for?
This trip is suitable for all of our youth members, the only consideration is they should be comfortable spending time away from home.

We are also interested in finding some Parent volunteers to come along and support the trip. If you are available for one of the groups and would like to be considered, please contact Leaside to discuss (we will need to enroll you as a volunteer and do a DBS check).

What is included?
All transport
All food
An extra activity on one of the days
Staffing

What is not included?
Snacks
Spending money
Guarantee of sunshine
Teddy bear

Level: ALL

Instructions

Participants will need to bring with them:

Sleeping bag or single duvet (and a sheet - the bunks are wipe clean and therefore plasticky)
Pillow?
Wash kit
Towel
Change of clothes for two days
Paddling and swimming kit
Books/cards/games for the evenings
Any medication
Plastic bags for wet/dirty clothes
Waterproofs
Spending money (everything is provided, so suggested maximum is £10)

Everything should be packed into a small, soft bag or backpack. The boat is rather snug and there just isn't the room for suitcases and hard luggage on board as everything needs to go into lockers.

Phones are permitted, but will be taken away from the participants during the day, so they can better engage with the boat trip. We will ensure they have access to stay in touch with home in the evenings, or if there are any great photo opportunities!
