Ashtanga Wanderer
Ashtanga Yoga & Mountaineering Retreat
20th - 26th October 2024
Ryder Hall, Ambleside, Cumbria. https://www.rydalhall.org/about/thegrot

Welcome wanderers to a very special retreat brought to you by Marque Garaux from Great Lakes Ashtanga Yoga and Jake Duckworth from Ashtanga Yoga York.

Ashtanga Wanderer aims to take you back to a more basic lifestyle and away from the distractions of day to day life and modern society. We will engage with nature through mindful activity, which extends beyond our yoga mat
into the mountains we climb, the rivers we swim in, the food we prepare and eat, the company we keep and finally back to our normal daily lives with hopefully a slightly different outlook and perspective.

Our journey together will take us into the heart of the English Lake District and the Cumbrian mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty and an Unesco world heritage site. Our home for the next six days is the beautiful Rydal Hall, located between Ambleside and Grasmere and ideally located to a range of stunning mountain hikes and trails. The accommodation is simple, a bunkhouse https://www.rydalhall.org/stay/bunkhouse with four large multiple occupancy rooms, large communal area, galley kitchen, shower facilities, drying rooms etc.

So here’s what to expect on this journey….

Mornings will begin with meditation & pranayama followed by an intensive Ashtanga Mysore practice followed by a cold water dip (if you feel like it!) in the waterfall directly outside the practice room. https://www.rydalhall.org/about/thegrot

As a group we will prepare and eat a healthy brunch, led and directed by the incredible Alice Cavazzuti https://www.instagram.com/alidilibellula?igsh=aDVpNWcxZHdhaGFk who is joining us from Florence Italy, she is the head teacher and owner of Florence Ashtanga Yoga https://www.instagram.com/florenceashtangayoga?igsh=ZjUzbGN1Yzh5NzY2 she also has a jaw dropping Ashtanga practice.

Then it’s off to the mountains navigating and exploring some of the most stunningly beautiful views of the English Lake District. We have chosen routes that are meant to be challenging so be prepared to test yourself physically.

After all the excitement of the day the evenings will involve a laid back lovingly prepared dinner, pyjamas and cocoa by the fireside, and congratulating ourselves on just how great we all are at Ashtanga and mountaineering!
