A 5-week block of classes focused solely on throwing on the wheel.
This will be a small class of up to 5 students, aimed at beginner level potters, no prior experience is required.
You will have your own wheel for the full length of each lesson and this gives you the ability to focus on your throwing for the full session with support from an experienced tutor. The first 3 weeks are used to establish throwing and the fourth week to turn your pots, which enables you to maximise the wheel time available in this short introductory course. The final week is set aside for glazing, the date of which is to be arranged with your tutor to suit.
The class each week will start with preparation of the clay for throwing. Then following a demonstration of throwing technique by the tutor, you will be given your own wheel to work on, guided and supported with improving your technique through the stages of throwing pots on a wheel.
You will learn to work with different weights of clay, progressing to different forms and turning the foot of the pot and adding handles if required. At the end of the making session you can choose your best pots to be kept and fired before you book to come back and glaze them.
The cost of classes includes tuition, clay and firing as well as use of tools, aprons and glaze!
Glazing is also included and will be done on the final week of the course, please note that the fifth week is 2 weeks after the last throwing class to enable to pots to be dry and fired in time to glaze.

Please note that throwing pots on a wheel is easier with shorter fingernails!

Pottery can be unpredictable and occasionally pieces can crack or explode during firing. We cannot guarantee your work will survive the full process but do everything we can to make sure that it does!

Murray Street is easily accessible via public transport as it's just a short walk from the High Street, with bus stops and Montrose rail station a short distance away.
Public car parking is currently free in Angus. There is short stay car parking on Murray Street but it's only for 1 hour during the day. The nearest long stay car parking is very near, it's called Murray Lane and is just to the west of Murray Street. Accessed from Strathmore Place a close (lane) leads you directly from the car park onto Murray Street opposite the Clay Half.
Parking at Lowerhall Street is a little further away, near Basin View and Aldi and the train station, but it is long stay and there are electric charge points there.
