Details

Learn how to take deer skins or other animals' hides and make sturdy, beautiful leather using all natural agents. Mostly geared to hair-off skin but applicable to pelts also. We will cover everything from basic skinning and dehairing/cleaning of skin to gathering and preparing plant tanning material, tanning the skin, and final oiling and finishing.

Though this is an involved process, none of it is terribly difficult to do or overly challenging to learn (with some problem solving, experimentation, and perseverance that is).

This workshop will provide hands-on experience in all stages of the process, but no skin will be brought through all stages. No material will be finished or sent home with students.
